The Favor of God is Always Fair

Some Christian leaders have said statements like "Favor ain't fair," referring to how God blesses and raises up leaders as He pleases, not necessarily based off their work or effort, but to His good pleasure.

Sometimes they use this phrase to mean, "Hey, God has blessed me, what can I say about it," and subtly teasing "Too bad you don't have the favor of God that I have."

While I believe that God clearly blesses us apart from our earning it, I also think that this takes us off point from the true spiritual blessings we have retained in Christ.

The greatest miracle is salvation.

Do we realize that the favor God has given us in Christ is far greater than any other favor-full gift He might give us. And when I say far greater, I am speaking of light years, millenia, infinitely, unspeakable, inexplicably, shockingly beyond any benefit or advantage we might gain here on this earth.

All of us come to God with a zero. And God comes to us with a ten, and He gives us everything we could ever possibly dream of in His Son Jesus Christ.

Other gifts like financial well-being, food in our stomach, friends to enjoy life with, and purpose and calling do not add much to this scale. They cannot add anything to what we have already been given in Christ. When we trust in Christ's cross work on our behalf, we already have it, it is already ours.

Here is where the rubber meets the road: when I put even an ounce of ungratefulness, or "why me, Lord"'s next to what Christ has done on the cross for me, it is pure sin. Our problem is that we magnify our own selves, and we can no longer see the cross. We cannot be full of the Holy Spirit, when we are already full of ourselves.

May Christ help us to see and savor this favor that ain't fair. What are some of reasons Christ is the greatest gift God has given you in your life?
