    Best Leadership Books

After having read dozens of books on the subject of leadership, here are four of the best leadership books I have read to date.  If you are a Pastor or ministry leader in any capacity, I highly recommend you pick these up!

Spiritual Leadership in the New Millenium by David Yonggi Cho

The Right to Lead by John Maxwell

The Top Ten Mistakes Leaders Make by Hans Finzel

Tale of Three Kings by Gene Edwards

    One Thousand in Spare Change

What would you do if you had $1,000 extra in spare change and you couldn't put it into savings or give it to the needy - you had to spend it on yourself?

Over the past few years I keep thinking about this question for some reason - and my answer would be - I would spend it on books.

I don't know if my insatiable appetite for reading is realistic.  I always want more books, but I can hardly keep up with reading the ones I already have.  Maybe I also need to wish for more time in my life to read!

Don't get me wrong, I'm also a picky reader - I only want to read stuff that will be deeply impacting and spiritually transformative in my life.  I pick what I read very carefully - and always try to keep my Scripture study and devotions of first importance before other books.

But I just love a good book.

    I Love My Church

A neat thing happened earlier this week: I sat in services of the MN District A/G Minister's/Spouse retreat up in Duluth, MN between my Pastor and his wife who I grew up with (0-18 yrs old) and my Pastor and his wife for the rest of my life (my wife's grandpa and grandma).

My wife's grandpa, G. Mark Denyes pastored Emmanuel Christian Center for around 45 years.  He was the first pastor of Emmanuel - hired by a group of families meeting in the basement of a home.  Today it is a sprawling mega-church with global impact and deep spirituality.

In our church's 50 year history, we are only on our second Lead Pastor - my father in law, Dwight Denyes.  God is using him in creative ways to lead our church with great momentum.

I have been going to Emmanuel Christian Center since I was 18, and I really have no desire to go anywhere else.  In truth, I love visiting other churches and learning from them and enjoying their unique cultures as we travel and preach around the globe.  But being away from my church makes me love it all the more.  It is an amazing place.

One thing we do great is simple, powerful ideas that the members can latch on to, to impact our community and the world:

-Give the price of a gallon of milk a week to missions.  If we all did only this (our congregation of 5,000 attendees) we would be giving over 1/2 million a year to missions!  As many of you may know, giving to missions is addicting - as people initiate this simple act in their lives it becomes a snowball effect of generosity.

-Seeking 200 people to pray 1 hour a week for the church and pastor.  Now over 280 people commit to pray 1 hour a week.  This is not a traditional 24/7 prayer chain, but it's creative formula allows for essentially two people praying every hour of the day.

-Write down and pray for 5 unchurched friends regularly.  When we pray for the lost, God moves our hearts to step out and reach them.  Stories are coming consistently of all God is doing through this movement.

BTW, we are having special Friday & Saturday night services this week (along with the Sunday morning services) with guest speaker Carlos Annacondia from Argentina.  Read my previous blog about him here - we'd love to have you join us this week for those meetings.

Carlos Annacondia is Coming to Town

Just wanted to send out an invite to all our Twin Cities peeps.  This weekend, Carlos Annacondia is in town doing three days of meetings at our home church - Emmanuel Christian Center.

Annacondia has been used by God as one of the main instruments in the Argentine revival over the past few decades.  He has personally preached to tens of millions of people around the world, and has led over 3 million people to the Lord across the great country of Argentina.  That would almost be like the entire population of Minnesota or Wisconsin coming together for Church each week!

The impact on Argentina has been amazing.  Secular media reports what is happening in their country.  In the 1950's, the average Evangelical church was just 7 people!  Today, through the ministry impact of Carlos Annacondia and Message of Salvation and various other Pastors and Intercessors - it is not uncommon to have churches of 20 to 30 to 50,000 people.  Many denominations are experiencing this type of tsunami growth.

Michelle and I had the opportunity to take a team of people to Argentina several years ago, and our experience there was breathtaking.  We had the opportunity to hear Annacondia speak at Claudio Freizdon's historic Rey del Reyes church in Buenos Aires which holds 14 services a week.  One service everyday of the week, and seven services on Sundays.  If that is not enough, while visiting one of their 7 services on a Sunday, we had to wait in line to get into church and the church was packed!  Another church we visited in Rosario, Argentina held a service that went for over six hours!

The spiritual vitality of the Church across Argentina is life changing, and I know you will sense and be changed by this if you join us for these services.  I'd encourage churches in the area to bring your congregation and leadership teams to visit and receive from the Lord through Annacondia's ministry.

My New Job for 95.3 Praise FM

I've been working for the past month towards a new radio station in the Twin Cities - 95.3 Praise FM.  This station works in partnership with North Central University (the greatest school in the world, Michelle and my alma mater) and with Praise FM - a network of stations across Minnesota and the Dakotas.

I have never been a big fan of radio.  Instead I always preferred my iPod to the options I had for radio, but that all changed a year ago when 95.3 Praise FM launched here in the Twin Cities.

I really didn't know too much until about six months after the station had launched.  I sorta just ran across the station.  Praise FM is a radio station that plays solely great worship tunes.  It's not Christian contemporary.  It is powerful, anointed, when-you-listen-you-are-drawn-to-God-and-sense-the-Presence-of-God-in-a-powerful-way kind of music.  Kinda hard to explain.

Once I tuned in I got hooked.  I've never been a big radio fan, but now I love the radio.  In fact, I now flip between several stations regularly - thanks to Praise FM.

Shortly after I finished with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and released my new book Revolutionaries, I was thinking and praying about approaching four different ministry organizations about working as a marketing director for them.  Michelle and I have had to work full time to pay our bills, even though we have traveled full time as evangelists over the past 8 years.

David McIver, the executive director of Praise FM approached me the day after I had been deciding who to ask about work - Praise FM was one of those four organizations I had thought to ask.  He asked me to consider the exact position I had been hoping to ask him for.  Long story short, I have been working for the past month already and look forward to a great year and beyond of impacting the Twin Cities through worship!  God's favor is evident as we prepare for all He has in 2010.

You can listen to Praise FM if you live in the Twin Cities by tuning in and saving 95.3 as a channel on your car's radio.

You can also listen to Praise FM from anywhere in the world by tuning in LIVE at PraiseFM.org.

You can also become a fan of Praise FM on facebook, and follow our updates on Twitter.
