God Can Change the Stats

So many discouraging statistics out there for Christians and for churches in America.  80% of unchurched folks confessed to wanting to go to Church if invited by a friend, while only 20% of Christians invited a friend over a year period.  80% of youth leave Church as they head into their twenties, while only 20% return to raise their families in the faith.  We are becoming the least churched generation in the history of our country.

I have some complaints about statistics like these.  We too easily forget where Christianity came from.  Jesus mentored the Twelve who in turn changed the world.  They preached the Gospel in a day and age when 1 in 2,833,200 had even heard of Jesus.  We have the advantage of 1 in 3 people in the world claiming adherence to Christ.  God has done it, and can do it again - God can change the statistics.

This is why studying revivals and movements are so important.  We find historically God has changed the statistics through his people who had a desperation for His move.  As we draw near to God and catch his creative vision for reaching those around us, we impact culture and the statistics.  God is bigger than the statistics.  Change is possible and some would say inevitable.

God's Word remains true: "I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail" (Matthew 16:18).
